GM CEO Barra says electric vehicles to be profitable by 2025 / The Associated Press
The CEO of US carmaker General Motors has said that she expects the company’s line of electric vehicles to turn a profit in North America by 2025, after it boosts its battery and assembly plant capacity on the continent.
That expectation is partially predicated on emissions-related tax credits, so this isn’t a one-for-one comparison with gas-burning vehicle figures.
But it does provide a sense of how quickly the industry is turning toward EVs, and suggests that automakers which invest more in the requisite infrastructure, sooner, will likely be able to financially justify doubling-down on this facet of the vehicle-world (which is likely to become dominant within about a decade), sooner.
